Maintain networking equipment, including: cabling, Cisco switches, and hubs. Maintain five Sun Solaris 8 and 2.6 servers using NIS+, including backups with Solstice Backup 5.5. Maintain software packages: Apache web server 1.3.12, Samba 2.0.7, Analog 4.11, Sendmail 8.9.3, TCP Wrappers 7.6. Maintain several Windows NT4.0 servers and NT Domains, supporting software, hardware, users, and services. Maintain NT software packages: SMS 2.0, Exchange 5.5, IIS 4.0. Maintain Ovid and ERL database server software. Plan future system changes and suggest purchases for new hardware and software.
June 1996 - January 2000 Computer Programmer/Analyst, University of South Florida Library
Involved with migrating a LAN server from a SunOS 4.1.3 to Solaris 2.5.1. Installed Samba LAN Manager software. Configured Windows 95 and NT4.0 workstations to mount drives through Samba, as well as utilize network policies and profiles on both NT4.0 and Unix servers. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain network hubs, workgroup switches, and cabling (including 3Com, Cisco, and SMC, both Ethernet and FastEthernet); upgraded entire Library network from 3Com and SMC hubs to an entirely Cisco switched network. Provide technical support for over 400 machines and troubleshoot Windows 95 and Windows NT4.0 workstations, both hardware and software, including Lotus 1-2-3 Release 5, Word Perfect 8, Netscape, Microsoft Office 97, and Internet utilities (e-mail, Telnet). Install and maintain peripheral cards, including memory, video cards, sound cards, and hard/floppy drives in Windows 95/NT and Sun systems. Setup network connections for new/relocated PCs. Install and maintain Netscape's Directory Server, Fasttrack Web Server, Proxy Server.
January 1996 - June 1996 Webmaster, University of South Florida Library
Maintained a SPARC 10 Sun workstation running SunOS 4.1.3 and NCSA httpd version 1.5 web server software. Created and maintained web pages and CGI scripts written in PERL and C. Beta tested final releases of new browsers and other software for general library use.
Nov. 1994 - March 1996 Independent Computer Consultant
Trained users in use of Internet software, including web browsers, Telnet, tn3270, various e-mail packages (Eudora, Pine), and PPP software. Provided phone support for users. Assisted customers in setup and maintenance of PCs.
July 1993 - January 1996 Library Technical Assistant, University of South Florida Library
Maintained Interlibrary Loan circulation sub-system, and was responsible for notifying patrons via mail about overdue materials. Provided assistance to patrons on phone and at the Interlibrary Loan service desk, including checking in/out materials borrowed from other libraries, answering patron questions, and receiving patron requests for materials. Monitored and used the OCLC network system to communicate with other libraries regarding the borrowing and loaning of materials. Was responsible for resolving problems with attempts to borrow materials from other libraries. Performed in-department tech support on Windows 3.1/DOS, OCLC, and NOTIS systems.
